Liz Moriarty & Associates provides highly professional yet personable support for mental health and other life challenges. Our services include counselling, therapy, dispute resolution services, critical incident debriefing, and tailored staff training programs. Established in 1993, the team at Liz Moriarty & Associates have developed an accessible and dependable practice servicing the Limestone Coast and upper South East region.


If you are visiting us for counselling and/or therapy, it is common to feel nervous prior to your first appointment. This information is designed to disambiguate and make the process easier for you.

Arrival and access

Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment time. Our reception area is located at the rear of the building, with full wheel-char access. Limited off-street parking is also available at the rear of the building.

Appointments

Appointments are available from Monday - Friday between 9am and 6pm. After-hours and phone consultations may also be available, depending on availability. Sessions usually run for 50-60 minutes unless otherwise arranged.

Cancellations

Liz Moriarty & Associates have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This is to ensure that we are able to offer this time to other clients in need of support. If you do not attend, or cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged the full consultation fee. Please note that rebates through Medicare are not available for cancelled or unattended appointments.

Referrals and payment options

You are not required to have a referral for your GP to access counselling services. For self-referrals, a full consultation fee can be paid on they day of your appointment.

If you have been referred your GP or treating specialist and have a Mental Health Care Plan, you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate under the Better Access scheme. Most GPs prefer you to schedule a double appointment in order to compile the referral. Please ensure you bring a copy of the Mental Health Care Plan to your first appointment in order to claim the rebate.

If you are attending via an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or Return to Work Rehabilitation program, please contact us to discuss your eligibility.

Payment is preferred on the day of consultation. For your convenience, we accept the following payment methods:

  • Cash

  • Cheque

  • EFTPOS

  • Direct Deposit/EFT

Liz Moriarty  
Director

Qualifications: 
Bachelor of Social Work (Hons), Monash University 
MAASW, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

Liz Moriarty commenced her career in nursing before retraining in social work at Monash University, Melbourne. She then embarked on a long and successful career in the South Australian social welfare sector, including an extensive period as Manager of the Department of Youth and Family Services (now Families SA) in Gawler, Barossa Valley, Clare and the South East. Liz’s clinical skills, empathetic disposition and experience in human service management soon became widely recognised. She established Liz Moriarty and Associates Pty Ltd in Mt Gambier in 1993.

Liz draws on a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness and more to aid in the following issues:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Stress problems and disorders including PTSD

  • Trauma

  • Relationship and family disputes

  • Workplace conflict

  • Self-esteem and confidence

  • Return To Work Rehabilitation

Paula McCubbin 
Counsellor

Qualifications: 
Bachelor of Social Work
Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
Diploma of Early Education
Certificate IV in Frontline Management

Paula began working at the Mater Children’s Hospital Intensive Care Unit, Brisbane, in 1988 as an Assistance Nurse caring for children and supporting their families. She then moved into childcare and completed a Diploma of Early Education while working in a busy centre on the Gold Coast. Paula and her husband travelled Australia for 7 years, obtaining work in various roles including tourism, hospitality, administration and management. In 2005, they settled in Mount Gambier, where she completed a Bachelor of Social Work at UniSA while working at Disability SA. Paula currently works at Yarrow Place – South Australia’s lead agency in Rape and Sexual Assault response – and is a lecturer in the Social Work Department at UniSA.

Paula’s areas of focus include:

Jeremy Gaynor
Counsellor

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Social Administration

Jeremy has been a practicing Social Worker for over thirty years. Jeremy has significant counselling/therapeutic experience in rural, regional and remote settings.


Ingrid Chizungu
Administration

Ingrid is likely to be your first point of contact with the business and is always ready to help with scheduling appointments, referrals, payments and general service enquiries. Ingrid is currently completing a traineeship with Liz, undertaking a Certificate 2 in Community Services. In 2020, Ingrid will commence a Bachelor or Psychology (Honours) in Adelaide.


Judy Schulz
Administration

Judy is likely to be the first person you speak to when you call or attend our consultation rooms. Having worked for the business for many years, Judy is highly equipped to respond to all manner of enquiries including scheduling appointments, referrals, payments and general matters.
